BARDON CHURCH GARDENING CLUB

Our roadside roses have had their second flush of flowers. Even up to the middle of October they are still looking good. Now it’s autumn and our big worry is getting up all the fallen leaves. The good thing about this is when we get there on a Wednesday morning it’s a lovely carpet of all the colours of autumn.

We have removed all ivy growing up our stone wall. The new land we acquired behind the stone wall has now been levelled. Gutters have now been cleaned out and this work is ongoing. I have also started to clean and repair our bird nesting boxes. As our compost heaps filled up Mick and I removed some perfect soil and have stored it for later use.

Now Christmas is round the corner. If you require a Christmas holly wreath it would help our ladies to plan if you contact Margaret or Iris. That comment just reminds me I have to start booking the gardening club’s Christmas dinner!

May God keep you all safe and well.            Brian

GREETINGS FROM ST. PETER’S

Here we are again. The last month seems to have flown, but the weather has been better! I hope you’ve been able to get out to see the beautiful colours of the trees. We have been out doing what we do best – eating first at Christ Church for their Harvest Supper. The meal and company was lovely and so was the entertainment with our friends Peter and Sheila Folks. It was good to see them again. Then a week later we were back at Christ Church for our supper. A different church group, a different room, but still lovely. Haydn and Jill Williams were our retired clergy guests, but I don’t know why we call them retired as it seems to me they still work as hard as they ever did! Bless them. Our entertainment was a Beetle Drive – very noisy but good fun. Thank you to both churches for lovely evenings. I’m sorry, St. Michael’s – I couldn’t get to your supper, but I’m sure it was as good as the other two.

From harvest to Christmas is not such a big jump so here are some of the dates that I know so far:

Nov.29 – Gerald’s Coffee Morning (look at the separate advert in this issue)

Dec.6 - Decorate church

Dec.7 - Christingle @ 10:15

Dec. 15  - Carol singing with residents of Park Manor @ 6:30pm.  If you can spare an hour do meet us there. They are lovely people and appreciate our being there.

Dec.17 – Quarry Christmas Concert with the Croft Silver Band. This is a lovely evening.

Dec. 21 – Holy Communion @ 10:15am.

Carols & songs @ 6:30pm. This is a good family time when the children get to show us how well their songs at school and we can show them how well we learned our carols.

Dec.24 –  Welcoming Christmas Day @ 11:30pm.

Dec.25 – 10:15am. I’m not sure what this service will be but I’m sure it will be good!.

Please try to join us for at least one of our services. You will be very welcome. God bless.                Rose

BARDON CHURCH FRIENDSHIP GROUP

The Harvest Supper at Christ church hall was a great success. Everyone I’ve spoken to agreed we had good food and the Beetle Drive was a good laugh and stressful!!!

I’d like to thank all the ladies who helped – and our menfolk for setting up for me. We made a profit of £175.

I’m now in the process of finalising our next event – a trip to the bell foundry.
