St Peter’s Church
Bardon Hill

A warm welcome to St Peter’s

Thank you for visiting St Peter’s website.

A little about us . . .

St Peter’s, Bardon Hill, is a parish church which forms part of the Church of England within the Diocese of Leicester.

We are in a joint benefice with two other local churches:  Christ Church, Coalville and St Michael’s, Ravenstone.  The Priest in Charge of this joint benefice is Rev Martin Joss.

We hold a service every Sunday at 10:15am (except when there is a fifth Sunday in a month).

St Peter’s is a friendly church and everyone is welcome.  On a typical Sunday we have a congregation of approximately 25 people with a varied age range from the very young to the young at heart !

St Peter’s is also open every Wednesday morning whilst our Gardening Club maintain the grounds.

So what services do we have:

On the first Sunday of the month we have Holy Communion

A holy communion service lasts around one hour and is lead by Rev Joss.  It is at this service we celebrate the eucharist which is the sharing of bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus’ body and blood.

Within the service we will sing four or five hymns and work our way through a service book which consists of prayers and confirming our belief.  Rev Joss will also do a sermon based on the day’s bible readings.

When it is time for the eucharist, Rev Joss will invite us all to the Lord’s Table.  If you have not been confirmed, you are still invited to attend the Lord’s Table for a blessing - all you have to do is keep your hands behind your back so that Rev Joss knows you do not wish to receive the bread and wine, instead he will put his hand above your head and give you a blessing.

On the second Sunday of the month we have Family Service

A family service lasts about 45 minutes and is usually led by Peter, our layreader.   We sing four or five songs/hymns or choruses, have a bible reading and a few prayers and Peter will give a talk.

On the third Sunday of the month we have Morning Worship

Morning worship lasts about one hour and is usually led by Peter.  We sing four or five hymns and work our way through a service book which consists of reading psalms, time for prayer and a sermon.

On the Fourth Sunday of the month we have Songs of Praise

Songs of Praise lasts about one hour and is led by Rose.  The congregation choose all the hymns or songs and you can bring along a favourite poem or story to share with us or share your talents with us.  We also say a few prayers.

When there is a fifth Sunday in the month we have a joint benefice Holy Communion

If there is a fifth Sunday in a month, all three churches in the benefice get together at just one church, and which church we attend alternates, so keep an eye on the diary page to find out where we are !

* * *

The Pattern of these services does sometimes change at special times of the year i.e. Easter or Christmas.

Children are invited to attend all of our services - we understand it is difficult to keep babies and chilldren quiet so do not worry about it, just relax and enjoy the service.  There are toys at the back of the church that you can let your children play with and please feel free to walk about with babies, if that is what you need to do.

After all services there is time for a drink and a chat and to meet all our church members.

The congregation also meet together sometimes socially and you are warmly invited to join us.  You can keep up to date with all our services and social events by looking on our diary/news pages on this website or visiting our Facebook page.
